Axel Merckx 6-Day Cycling Tour
Monday April 21st - Sunday 27th April, 2008
OUR ITINERARY
DAY 1: Monday April 21st
You will be picked up at Brussels Zaventem airport and brought to the Hostellerie
St. Roch where you will stay for the next 9 nights.
Your bicycles
will be assembled for you at the hotel by a qualified bicycle mechanic.
We will enjoy a superb group dinner at the hotel where Axel and his staff will answer all your questions regarding the tour.
DAY 2: Tuesday April 22nd
Today we will test our strength and endurance and ride part of the hilly course of the Fleche Wallone which includes an extreme grade of about 20%, the final climb of the "Mur de Huy".
We will start our ride on top of the "Mur de Huy" for the last 106 km loop with 8 climbs remaining in the race.
DAY 3:Wed. April 23rd
Today we will enjoy the wonderful Fleche Wallone, one of the best known races of the classics.
Beginning at the start line, we will then take routes by car and follow the riders at crucial points throughout the race.
Enjoy an incredible exclusive privilege offered to very few: watch the racers as they come through the Finish Line from the private VIP area- this is as good as it gets!!!.
At the conclusion of the race, we will return to the hotel for a group dinner
DAY 4: Thursday April 24, 2008.
This morning we will drive approx. one hour to the Eddy Merckx Factory where you will have an exclusive chance
to see how the world famous Eddy Merckx bicycles are built. The factory is not open to
the public so this is an exclusive opportunity for the participants of the Axel Merckx Cycling Tour.
A quick casual lunch will be available before we head out
to ride part of Eddy's training routes in the surrounding area.
Return
to hotel for another wonderful dinner.
DAY 5: Friday 25 April
Ride the last 100km of the Liege Bastogne Liege: Axel's
favorite race course - the hardest and also oldest classic race in the
world of cycling.
Starting in Vielsalm we will tackle the nine steepest climbs
of the Belgian Ardennes.
Experience the course with Axel, who has
ridden this race 13 times.
We will most likely encounter many of the pro teams out on the course
preparing for the race.
DAY 6: Saturday 26 April
We will enjoy another great ride in a direction to be determined by group consensus, with a distance of approximately 100 km.
DAY 7: Sunday 27 April
